The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has once again awarded Laveen School District the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting (COE). This award recognizes districts that have met the program’s high standards for financial reporting and transparency. The school district earned the Certificate of Excellence for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ended 2021.

Each year we recognize select administrators who exhibit exceptional leadership, outstanding accomplishment, and dedicated service to Laveen’s students and community.

This year we are recognizing nine administrators: Nicole Goodwin and Melissa Garcia of M.C. Cash, Jessica Epacs and Erin Scagnelli of Vista del Sur, Dr. Robert Caplinger and Reed Brotherton of Laveen School, Purchasing Supervisor Julie Carson, Community Engagement Coordinator Joe Roselle, and Estrella Foothills Assistant Principal Erin Lebish.

Laveen School District will be hosting a Job fair for Classified positions. The job fair will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Laveen Education Center, 5001 W. Dobbins.

Each Spring, all students in Grades 3-8 participate in the statewide academic achievement test. The test, Arizona’s Academic Standards Assessment (AASA), measures a student’s mastery of the standards in two subjects: Math and English Language Arts (Reading and Writing). This year we had 67 students across the district who received a perfect score in at least one of the tested areas.

At last week’s Governing Board meeting, we recognized three students whose achievements on this test set them apart from the others: Viviana Alvarado (Grade 5) received a perfect score in both Math and ELA. Patrick Minh (Grade 8) and Emilyse Winter (Grade 8) both received a perfect score in the Math section for the last four years. All three of these students attend Vista del Sur.
