Laveen Seeks Interest in Opening Laveen Online Academy

Over the last year Laveen has found the online learning option to be a popular choice among families. In an effort to continue to meet this need, the Laveen School District plans to open a full online school, Laveen Online Academy, beginning with the 2021-22 school year. To help guide our planning, we are gauging the interest level of families in utilizing the online school, pending its availability.

District Technology Coach Named North America Google Trainer of the Month

Laveen District Technology Coach J.D. Williams has been named October’s North America Google Trainer of the Month by Google for Education.

Williams provides provide professional development and support for all teachers, helping them integrate technology and Google tools into their instruction. He also assists with the Parent Help Desk, assisting families troubleshoot Chromebook issues and navigate online curriculum.

There are over 6,000 Google Certified Trainers world-wide.

The Google Certified Trainer of the month is chosen by Google for Education staff from nominations that are put in by other Google Certified Trainers. They have chosen one Trainer from North American and one international Trainer each month since January 2020.

Laveen CFO Kevin Hegarty Receives ASBO International’s 2020 Pinnacle Award

Laveen’s Chief Financial Officer, Kevin Hegarty, is the recipient of the Association of School Business Officials International’s Pinnacle of Achievement Award.

The Pinnacle Awards celebrate the work of outstanding individuals whose original solutions maximize resources and enhance student achievement. Hegarty was recognized for his role in an innovative land transaction that involved local and state collaboration.
