The Laveen School District will be opening its ninth school in August 2020.
Located with the Taylor Morrison development near 55th Avenue and Carver, the new school will feature global studies as its signature program. Estrella Foothills Global Academy will open to Grades Kindergarten – 6 in August 2020. It will add a grade level each year until it serves Grades K-8.
Groundbreaking is planned for October 25 at 9:00 a.m.

Congratulations to Rogers Ranch School for being named a 2019 A+ School of Excellence by the Arizona Educational Foundation!
The A+ School of Excellence program is a comprehensive school assessment program that celebrates outstanding public schools. Schools complete an extensive application which is then followed by site visits by members of the AEF. The A+ School of Excellence™ designation is valid for a three-and-a-half-year period.
Rogers Ranch joins M.C. Cash School and Trailside Point Performing Arts Academy in receiving this prestigious award.
Representatives from the Arizona Educational Foundation will present the school with an official banner at a student assembly.
Paseo Pointe School welcomed Governor Doug Ducey on April 9. The Governor visited several classrooms including Paseo’s Dual Language Immersion classes, where he witnessed similar lessons being taught in English and Spanish, and the school’s media club where he was interviewed as part of the student-run newscast. The Governor also read an Arizona-themed story, “Three Little Javelinas” to first grade students.
The tour concluded with a round table discussion centered on the Arizona Teachers Academy – the Governor’s initiative to encourage college students to pursue a teaching degree without student debt being a deterring factor. Students who enter this program agree to commit one year to teaching for each year they receive the scholarship. Participants included Northern Arizona University President Dr. Rita Cheng and College of Education Dean Ramona Mellott, Arizona Board of Regents Fred DuVal and Larry Penley, several Laveen student teachers/ interns who are part of the academy, Principal Kristi Pashley, and Superintendent Johnson.
Students who enter this program agree to commit one year to teaching for each year they receive the scholarship that covers their tuition.

We will be hosting a number of town hall forums for parents, staff, and students to share feedback on their experiences with us. These sessions will be moderated by Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA).
HYA has been contracted by the district as an independent third party to conduct a comprehensive, thorough, and productive community engagement process. The team’s goal is to provide the Laveen District with accurate information identifying and measuring community, parent, student, and staff perceptions of Laveen’s schools.

If you’ve had these same questions, you will not want to miss AZED101’s presentation On How Arizona Funds Education. AZED101 is a non-partisan, grassroots effort dedicated to informing citizens about education funding in Arizona. The group is comprised of volunteer parents, teachers, and students from public, charter, and private schools. In order to understand the problems with education funding, they researched the facts of the situation and are presenting information all across the state.
